Onboard the USS Mir, the Sciences department is charged with the study of all the sciences.  The department is broken down into specific areas of specialty from Life Sciences to Astrometrics.  In terms of bridge operation, the Sciences department, under the Computer Science Officer, is charged with providing the CO and others with the maximum amount of data possible regarding the surroundings, whether this be by ship’s sensor, or in a landing party.  It also maintains and updates the Main Computer software programming.
